BUCHAREST, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Romanian President Nicusor Dan signed into law on Friday new regulations tightening control over pyrotechnic materials, introducing prison sentences ranging from one to five years for the unauthorized production, possession, sale, or use of high-risk fireworks and explosives.
The legislation amends Law No. 126/1995 on the regime of explosive materials, following a series of serious incidents involving illegal fireworks in recent years, including deadly warehouse explosions and public safety breaches during celebrations.
Under the new provisions, only individuals aged 16 and above are permitted to possess and use category F1 pyrotechnics, which are classified as low-risk and designed for confined spaces.
Unauthorized handling of higher-risk materials may result in imprisonment of up to five years.
The law also mandates that explosives and pyrotechnics intended for civil use must be handled under the supervision of certified pyrotechnicians. ■
