MADRID, July 22 (Xinhua) -- French Open champion Carlos Alcaraz has announced he will not compete in the forthcoming ATP 1000 Toronto Masters.
Alcaraz, who lost an intense Wimbledon final to Jannik Sinner just over a week ago, has explained why he won't be in Toronto for the tournament that starts on July 27 and ends on August 7.
"After many consecutive weeks of competition without rest, I will not be able to play in Toronto this year. I have small muscles issues and I need to recover physically and mentally for what comes next. To the tournament and to my fans in Canada I am very sorry, I will see you next year," he wrote on social media.
Sinner and Novak Djokovic have also confirmed they will miss the event due to muscle problems, while Alcaraz will return to action in Cincinnati ahead of the US Open, with its main draw competition starting on August 24. ■
