BEIJING, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- As the world enters a period of turbulence and transformation, old and new challenges make it urgent to find solutions in the shared interests of the well-being and civilizations of humanity.
In this vital regard, China has increasingly become a major contributor to global public intellectual goods over recent years, putting forward the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative (GGI).
As a major member of the Global South, China, drawing on reflections about the future of the world and a summary of its unique practices, has developed a system of public intellectual goods oriented toward the globe. A report released on Saturday by the Xinhua Institute, a think tank affiliated with Xinhua News Agency, highlighted the global significance and practical value of these international public goods.
Titled "Answering the Questions of Our Time: The Global Significance and Practical Value of China's Public Intellectual Goods," the research said these scientific, open and progressive ideas and visions are set to help resolve the pressing global challenges of today and inject strong impetus into humanity's development and progress.
As the latest global public good proposed by China, the crucial GGI calls for a commitment to sovereign equality, international rule of law, multilateralism, a people-centered approach, and real results. It aims to promote the development of a more just and equitable global governance system and a community with a shared future for humanity.
The world today is hunted by frequent regional turmoil, impeded economic development, backlash against globalization, and an intensifying deficit in governance. On the other hand, nations are now more interconnected and interdependent than ever before. The notable collective rise of the Global South, as shown by the increasingly influential organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS, has made it all the more urgent to develop new visions, ideas and concepts to meet the needs of shared development, and build an open, inclusive, clean and beautiful world of lasting peace, universal security and shared prosperity.
The public intellectual goods provided by China align with humanity's shared values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy and freedom. Their popularity also stems from China's successful development, which has eliminated absolute poverty and achieved a moderately prosperous society in all aspects for its 1.4 billion people. They inspire other countries, especially those in the Global South, to address development challenges and achieve prosperity and progress.
China will always be a force of peace, stability, and progress for the world. The world's second-largest economy will continue to be a major driver of global economic growth.
The Chinese ideas and plans will surely gain broader support and deliver more practical outcomes for the great cause of world peace and development, through the joint efforts of all. ■
